How degrees and applications work
UniPal places students at private, English-taught universities. A bachelor’s takes three to four years and a master’s one to two. Check that the university is state-recognised (staatlich anerkannt).
Germany has research universities (Universitäten) and more practical universities of applied sciences (Hochschulen). Public universities also exist, but most of their bachelor’s degrees are taught in German and they are not our focus.
You apply directly to the private university. You also need a school certificate that German rules accept for university entry; the university checks this for you.
Entry requirements
- IGCSE and A-Level
- Usually three A-Levels plus IGCSEs covering set subjects (such as Maths, English, a science and another language). With fewer, private universities may offer a foundation year.
- IB Diploma
- The full IB Diploma with at least 24 points and the subject mix German rules require: two languages, Maths, a science and a social science.
- American Diploma
- The diploma with a GPA of at least 3.0 and usually four or five AP exams at grade 3 or above. Without them, a foundation year or a preparatory college (Studienkolleg).
- German Abitur
- The Abitur from a German school in Egypt gives the same access as in Germany.
- English
- IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 or equivalent. You do not need German for an English-taught degree.
