Common App essay feedback

Applying to universities in the United States? Paste your Common App personal essay or a college supplement. You get the notes a US admissions counsellor would give you, and the writing stays yours: we never rewrite it.

The main essay every college on your Common App receives. Choose your prompt and paste your draft.

Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
Prompt 1 of 7, as Common App words it for 2026–2027

0 of 650 words

Your essay must stay yours.

We point out what to change and why, but we never rewrite it. US colleges expect the essay to be in your own words, and admissions officers notice when it is not.

Your essay is sent to an AI model to write the feedback. We do not save it.

What we look at

  • Does it answer the prompt

Each of the seven prompts asks something specific. We check that your essay responds to it, not to a general question about your life.

  • Does it sound like you

Admissions officers want to hear a 17-year-old, not a speech or an adult. We point out where your own voice disappears.

  • Is there a real story

One specific moment, shown in detail, and what changed in you because of it. Lists of achievements belong in your activities section.

  • Is it specific to the college

For “Why this college?” answers: real programmes, classes and resources tied to your plans, rather than praise any college could receive.

The seven prompts are the ones Common App publishes for the 2026–2027 application, unchanged from last year. Applying to the UK as well? Use our UCAS personal statement feedback. Read more about studying in the United States.
