Scholarships for students from Egypt

Most scholarships come from the universities themselves and are won with a strong application. Below: how they work, what they ask for, and the ones open now.

in scholarships secured for our students over eight years
Scholarships offered to UniPal students since 2018, counted for every year of study each award covers and across all the universities that made a student an offer. Since 2026 every award is also recorded in our student records.

Types of scholarship

The same word covers very different things. Knowing which kind you are looking at tells you what to do next.
  • Merit scholarships

Given for strong grades, test scores or a portfolio. Most university scholarships for students from Egypt are merit-based.

  • Need-based aid

Given because your family cannot cover the full cost. You show your family’s income and savings. Some US universities offer it, though fewer offer it to international students. It is rare in the UK and Europe.

  • Automatic or competitive

An automatic award goes to everyone who meets the published grades, often as a fee discount on your offer. A competitive award needs a separate application or essay, and only some applicants win it.

  • First year only or renewable

Some awards cover the first year only. Renewable awards continue each year, usually if you keep a minimum grade. Check which kind it is before you compare offers.

What you usually need

Requirements differ by university, but most applications ask for some of these.
Grades
Your predicted or final grades (IGCSE and A-Level, IB, American Diploma and others). Many awards set a minimum, for example a grade average or IB points.
An offer
Most university scholarships are only open once you have applied, and many only after you hold an offer.
English test
An IELTS, TOEFL or similar score, if your course needs one.
Essay or statement
Competitive awards often ask why you deserve it or what you will contribute, in 300 to 800 words.
Financial documents
Only for need-based aid: your family’s income and savings, sometimes on a form such as the CSS Profile for US universities.
References
A teacher or counsellor letter, often the same one used in your application.

Timing for September 2027 entry

Typical dates. Each university sets its own deadlines, so check the scholarship page of every university on your list.
Now to November 2026
Shortlist universities and check each one’s scholarship page. US early deadlines, often 1 November, can be the cut-off for merit awards.
By 13 January 2027
UCAS deadline for most UK courses. Apply on time: some UK scholarships are only open to students who applied by then.
January to April 2027
Offers arrive. Automatic awards usually appear in the offer letter; separate applications for competitive awards often close in this period.
April to June 2027
Results of competitive awards. Compare the real cost of each offer, after scholarships, before you accept.
September 2027
You start. Renewable awards are reviewed each year against your grades.

UCAS deadline from UCAS. Other dates are typical patterns, not fixed rules.

How to spot a scholarship scam

Real scholarships never ask you to pay to receive them. Be careful if any of these happen.

  • You are asked to pay a fee to apply for, or to “release”, a scholarship.
  • You are told you have won something you never applied for.
  • You are promised a “guaranteed” scholarship.
  • The offer comes from a personal email address or a WhatsApp number, not a university address.
  • You are rushed: “reply today or you lose it”.

If you are not sure, check the scholarship on the university’s own website, or send it to us on WhatsApp and we will look at it with you.

Common questions

Do I need a university offer before I can apply for a scholarship?
Usually, yes. Most university scholarships are only open once you have applied, and many only after you hold an offer. Automatic awards often appear in the offer letter itself.
When should I apply for scholarships for September 2027?
Start now. US early deadlines, often 1 November 2026, can be the cut-off for merit awards, and the UCAS deadline for most UK courses is 13 January 2027. Separate applications for competitive awards often close between January and April 2027.
Do I have to pay to apply for a scholarship?
No. Real scholarships never ask you to pay to apply for them or to receive them. A fee, a "guaranteed" award or a prize you never applied for are signs of a scam.
Are most scholarships for Egyptian students merit-based?
Yes. Most university scholarships for students from Egypt are given for strong grades, test scores or a portfolio. Need-based aid exists at some US universities but is rare in the UK and Europe.
Does a scholarship cover every year of my degree?
Not always. Some awards cover the first year only. Renewable awards continue each year, usually if you keep a minimum grade, so check which kind it is before you compare offers.
