Show you can support yourself
You must show at least €600 a month for the whole stay (100% of Spain’s IPREM index, which is €600 a month in 2026). For a 9-month course that is €5,400; for 12 months, €7,200. Tuition is not part of this amount, so if fees are still unpaid, show those as well.
- Bank statements for the last 6 months, originals stamped by the bank, in your name or a parent’s.
- The sponsor’s income: payslips or pension statements for the last 3 months, or company documents if self-employed.
- A parent as sponsor: a copy of the parent’s passport (or translated national ID), and the two bank forms below.
The bank declaration lets the embassy check the account; print it, fill it in and sign it at home.

Health insurance, accommodation and flight
- Health insurance from an insurer authorised to work in Spain, covering your whole stay. Ordinary travel insurance is not accepted. Embassies ask for full cover with no excess or co-payments.
- Accommodation for the time you study: a student residence booking and payment, a rental contract, or a notarised invitation letter.
- Flight booking showing the date you plan to travel.
- 05
Police and medical certificates (stays over 180 days)
For a course longer than 180 days you also need these two certificates. Both must be legalised, first by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then by the Spanish Embassy.
- Police certificate (فيش وتشبيه), if you are over 16: from every country you have lived in during the last 5 years, translated into Spanish. It is usually accepted for 3 months from issue, so time it carefully.
- Medical certificate stating that you do not have any disease with serious public-health effects under the 2005 International Health Regulations. Use the official template, have it issued by a hospital and stamped by the Ministry of Health before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
To book a legalisation appointment at the Spanish Embassy in Cairo, email emb.elcairo.leg@maec.es with only the details the embassy asks for, and send it once: repeated emails are ignored. You then get a login to book the appointment online. The embassy charges a fee for each document it legalises.

Extra papers if you are under 18
If you will travel alone or with only one parent, you need:
- Travel authorisation from both parents or your legal guardian, made before a notary or a juvenile court judge and legalised by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Both parents’ passports and contact details.
- Details of the adult responsible for you in Spain, with their ID or residence card. The embassy may ask for more documents about them.
